The Art Of Learning New Business Skills
No matter what we do life is about constantly learning new things. Sure you can keep the same job, drink beer and watch football every weekend. The life of a couch potato can be yours! It may fulfill your basic needs, but if you stop learning you won’t grow very much.
When I first started online in 2000 I wanted to set up a website for some of my products. They had plenty of services to build websites. Since I wanted to sell physical products I needed something a little more sophisticated.
I had to have a storefront. I needed to be able to easily add new products. I need a shopping cart and a payment processor. After some research I found what I needed. Back then they had these free services where you could build a complete store.
They even had built in marketplaces with some traffic. Traffic of course varied by the marketplace. Yet it still took some work to figure out. Even with the system and templates in place you still needed to upload product photos and design your pages. Let me tell you those photos often needed to be resized or pages redesigned because they didn’t look right. Instructions were sometimes limited.
I used two or three services for different products. Some were easier than others to use and the built in traffic varied.
I can easily remember my frustration trying to get the product pages to look right on that first product site. I had to take frequent breaks from the computer. Otherwise I might have smashed my computer screen. When I did get it I felt triumphant and proud of myself. I had mastered another technique another skill.
Guess what? No matter where you live in the world you have to start at the beginning. Everything has it’s learning curves. The time it takes you to learn a skill will depend on you. Some things will be easier to master than others. Its just like in school. I was good at history, english, languages, math and more. Yet forget chemistry I barely passed. I never took it further to try and master chemistry. I know that I would have if I needed to or wanted to. My career choice did not need it so I did not want to take it. It’s the same for you. Some internet marketing skills will come easily to you. Others will take longer to learn.
I’m working on a new internet project. Again I find myself needing to learn how to do things I haven’t before. I mastered another skill earlier in the week. I had to put it aside last week because of personal reasons. Yet I got started again and got it done.
My project also involved me using Photoshop. Now I am not very savvy with Photoshop. It sometimes leaves me screaming in frustration. Actually I never did spend the chunk of change to get Photoshop. I use Adobe Elements which is cheaper and a little easier to maneuver for me. Which works well enough with my skill level. Needless to say I figured out how to do what I wanted. So now for future projects I can easily do it again.
Your frustrations only win if you quit. You have no idea how close you are to success. Stop procrastinating and get started. The first step is all you need to take today.
Plus we have the wonderful world of outsourcing. Don’t let a project issue stop you. Get help if you can’t figure it out or just don’t want to do it. If your budget is too tight to afford outsourcing project details then start saving. Stop the Starbucks, impulse buys and take out food. Stop making excuse for why you can’t do it. Failure or success is in your court.
