The Importance Of Owning The Products You Promote

Back around 1995 when the internet was a youngster and only a few
well known marketers were online. I took a sales job with a company
selling websites to local businesses. At that time I did not own a
computer and knew nothing about the internet.

I had leads that the apt setters had set for me. The company gave
me a powerpoint presentation in a binder and sent me on my way.

It was not a pretty site. I did not see the value at that time in
having a website for a local business. Even after I asked our
manager to train some of the other staff and myself. There simply
were not enough consumers going online to look for local
businesses. Nowadays of course that is a different story.

Needless to say some of the other’s ended up quitting, as did I. We
could not sell something we did not understand or have any passion
for. However it did work out good for me anyway. At the time I was
doing Network Marketing. I ended up signing up several people in my
downline. I believed in the products and the company.

The same principles apply to internet marketing. If you try to
promote affiliate products you don’t own it’s going to be a lot
harder. Sure you can use the template emails and ads that you get,
but everyone else is doing that. It’s much better to be able to
tell why you are recommending the product or service. You don’t
want to be recommending junk!

I’ve seen marketer’s rescind their recommendations on products. I’m
sure some of you have seen this too over the past few months. Don’t
put yourself in that position. Do your research!

I also recommend researching the creator’s other products and
services. Yes this takes more time, but it can give you an idea of
the integrity of the marketer. Are his previous products any good
or are they junk. We are all going to have customers with issues
from time to time. Keeping that in mind do customers have
justifiable complaints about his products and service? Is there a
pattern to the complaints? For example everyone has heard of how
hard it is to cancel an AOL account. How many times have they
gotten in trouble for continuing to bill a customer? They have had
serious issues with this.

Several years ago I bought a membership from a marketer. It was
complete and utter junk. I am talking zero content! My
emails to cancel my membership were ignored. I actually had to
cancel my credit card in order to stop the billing. I never again
will have anything to do with anything this guy offers.

Recently a marketer I have met and respect was promoting one of
this guy’s products. It made my stomach turn.

So keep these things in mind the next time you do a product
promotion in your niche.
